
How many times have we heard that someone is giving up their dog because they’re planning to have a baby or are already pregnant? I mean, all those nasty germs and the work of caring for a baby and a pet at once can be overwhelming.
Well, here’s new ammo to fire back at the uninformed–new data shows that households with dogs make for healthier babies, says a study at the University of Alberta, suggesting that families with dogs have babies with some very powerful gut bacteria.
The four-year study followed 746 infants and their mothers, noting if the family had a pet during the second or third trimester of the pregnancy as well as approximately three months postpartum.
