Owners forced to relinquish their tightly bonded happy little family!
If you walked into a shelter and saw a cat, a dog and a rat sharing the same kennel, what would you do?
My reaction would be, “Oh wow! Where do I sign the adoption papers?”
And when you think about it, I'm sure it was a very sad day for Jack the Cat, Sasha the Dog, and Tweaks the Rat's owners when they had to surrender their tightly bonded, happy little family at a shelter. But they must of had to do it. I mean, who could give up this awesome little trio if they didn't absolutely have to?
“They had to downsize their home, and they weren't able to take the three animals with them, so they brought them here,” said Cheryl Rosenthal of the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
“A lot of people would say, ‘Why would you do that?' But not every place will accept pets, let alone three of them.”
But, thankfully, they did choose the Oshkosh Area Humane Society (OAHS) in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. And frankly, this little family couldn't have been placed in better hands.
The director Joni Geiger calls the philosophy at OAHS “pretty simple,” saying, “Every animal deserves an opportunity to find a loving family.” And she emphasizes, “Every. Single. One.”
So when their humans told the shelter how tightly bonded Sasha, Jack, and Tweaks were, the staff worked with them.
For instance, when Jack the cat went for his vet exam and became a growly, hissy, and unhappy kitty who wouldn't let the doc near him, the staff was on it and brought Sasha into the exam room. Jack instantly calmed down. Sasha, you see, is Jack's guide and emotional support dog. Jack has difficulty seeing and when Sasha is nearby, all is well in Jack's world.
